Connect Screen

From the share screen, you can choose to connect devices directly together
this can be over WiFi (same network) or over bluetooth
this enables bulk transfer of data/images between the two devices, utilising the backup/restore functions of the app (backup one one, restore on other)
useful when you wish to transfer data between new/old devices or create backups on other devices

The transfer will need be repeated if you want the data to remain in sync (unlike Cloud Backups where there is a permanent cloud copy, sync'd between devices automatically)


Actions

First select how the two devices will connect to each other

Connect over a local network/WiFi connection, including hotspots, both devices must be connected to the same (local) network
or
Connect using a standard bluetooth connection

If other devices have backed up to this device, you can restore those backups onto this device
This option is only available if other device's backups are available


Wait for a Connection

Waiting for a connection, will allow this app to be seen on the network/bluetooth by another device

Scan for Devices

Scan for a device will search the local network/bleutooth for an app which is waiting for a connection

Enter device address

If scanning is not finding other devices (local network only), you can directly enter the address of the other device (as shown in its info area)

Once entered the address will be scanned for waiting apps

Once connected a new set of actions will be displayed


Sync changes with other device

This will sync all updates and images between the devices
The sync is based on barcode and shelf, this may cause issues if you have items with no barcodes, or items have been moved between shelves since a previous sync

The latest update of each Book will be kept

You can choose in which direction to transfer changes:

you can choose which updates to transfer:

sync flags

  • Add will update all missing Books
  • Update will update only the matching Books
  • Delete will remove those Books which are not found on the target device
You cannot delete when sync'ing in both directions, as missing Books will be added in each direction

Books are matched by ISBN,
if two or more match, then the shelf is checked, if still two or more match then they are matched in order created

you can also choose if images are to be transferred as well:

This action can take a while to run, you will see the progress for each step:

When finished, you can return to the list of actions:

If an error occurs, you can re-run the action, it will know which Books have already been sync'ed


Transfer everything TO other device

This will transfer everything from this device to the other device

This is the option for transferring your data to a new phone

As this will completely replace all of the data on the other device you will be asked to confirm:

you have the option to create a new backup first, otherwise the latest backup will be used:

you can also choose if images are to be transferred as well:

This action can take a while to run, you will see the progress for each step:

When finished, you can return to the list of actions:

If an error occurs, you can re-run the action, it will continue from the last step


Add shelf TO other device

This will transfer one or more shelves from this device to the other device

you can choose how duplicate Books are handled,

Duplicates are checked using the barcode, you can choose:

  • no duplicates at all, any matching Books will not be added
  • no duplicates within the shelf, any matching Books in the transferred shelf will not be added

you can also choose if images are to be transferred as well:

you can choose one or more shelves to add to the other device:

When finished, you can return to the list of actions:

If an error occurs, you can re-run the action, it will continue from the last step


Backup TO other device

This will create a full backup of this app on the other device

This allows you to keep full backups on other devices

you have the option to create a new backup first, otherwise the latest backup will be used:

you can also choose if images are to be backed up as well:

When finished, you can return to the list of actions:

Restore FROM other device

This will restore a full backup of this app stored on the other device

This allows you to restore full backups from another devices

As this will completely replace all of the data on the device you will be asked to confirm:

you can also choose if images are to be restored up as well:

This action can take a while to run, you will see the progress for each step:

When finished, you can return to the list of actions:

If an error occurs, you can re-run the action, it will continue from the last step


Restore other devices backup

This will restore a full backup of this app that has been backed up to this device from another device

This allows you to restore full backups from other device's backups

This option is only displayed if backups from other devices are available

As this will completely replace all of the data on the device you will be asked to confirm:

confirm restore

You can choose which backup to restore:

If the backup is of another type, you will be asked to confirm (see section below):
