Shelf Screen Overview

This allows customisation of the Comic Library App, including changing how the field is used.


Phone Buttons


The Menu button provides a quick access to add and delete custom fields


The Search button provides access to the Comic Library App quick search functionality


The Back button returns to the Previous Screen


Settings are grouped together:

Theme Options

Selects which theme to use for the main (home, lists, edit) screens

The main choices are dark or light, the default is light:

Non Holo themes are only valid on newer android devices, and for these the main menu button will be on the bottom bar (far left or right)

edit blocks theme

Selects if a solid color (inverse to background) is used around the blocks of fields used in the Edit screen
This only applies to the non-default themes, for the default theme this is enabled





Interface Options

Changes the display of dates in the screens

Display icons for the tag fields in all screens

Read not owned

Read Comics that are not owned, are not included when filtering or counted on the shelf screen

independent shelf

Each shelf uses it's own individual sort order and display settings on the Comics Screen

Changes which fields are show in the list views, see the Assign Fields Screen

hide unshelved shelf

Hide the unshelved shelf, when it has no Comics, on the shelf screen

hide shelf totals

Hide the second row totals for each shelf on the shelf screen

exclude wanted from total

Items that are 'Wanted' do not count towards to the total number of Comics for a shelf

shelf total location

Choose where the total Comics number is displayed for each shelf on the shelf screen
total location

overall total

Select the field that is shown as an overall total on the shelf screen
This can also be changed by pressing on the total on the screen
total field

overall total icon

Change the icon used to represent total Comics, used on the shelf screen
total icon

display edit title  
compress edit view

Displays the expanders in the Edit Details Screen
which are used to hide/show empty fields

large description

Use a larger edit box for description in the Edit Details Screen

large details scroll

This increases the right margin on the Edit Details Screen

sequence digits

Change the number of padding zeros displayed for the sequence number on the Edit Details Screen

Changes the order of the edit fields, drag the fields up/down into the order wanted
Note that the image, main dates, color, sequence and rating are all included as the image area

Resets the field order used in the edit screen to the app defaults

Hides or Shows the second quicklist on the home screen

action bar

Hides or shows the top action on the home screen

All actions on the action bar are also available on the home screen main menu

first startup

Changes which screen is first shown when the app is started

Interaction Options

keep screen on

When selected, keeps the phone screen on whilst the app is in use

password

Sets a start-up password for the app, see Password Protection

type password for more info

menu action

When selected, displays the menu button in the action bar

library mode

Changes the screen buttons on the Shelf Screen and the Comics Screen to be library (scan out and scan in) buttons
scan inscan out

fast scroll

Display a thumbnail when viewing Comics
which allows faster scrolling through the list
fast scroll

number inputs

Controls how number input dialogs are controlled
Enabling this uses the more restrictive type of inputs, which, on devices that support it, enables numbers to be input in preference to letters
Disable this setting if you cannot switch to letters when inputting numbers (in series numbers, sequence etc)

single press

A single press on the screens will display the context menu (rather than the usual long press)

back key

The back key exists the multi list mode
only avaialbe on android 2.0 upwards

any file manager

Allows more file manager apps to be used to locate for files during import
This is required for some file managers to be detected (eg Astro)
Note you may see apps that are not true file managers with this selected

offline help

Always uses Offline App Help when selected from the actions/main menu





Clean Text Options

These options control how text is cleaned during lookups and edits.

clean settings title

Clean text options are applied automatically during all Lookups,

when Saving an Edit

and when editing values in the List Values Screen

capital title

Capitalizes every word in the title

Takes effect with next lookup or save

upper title

Uppercase the title

Takes effect with next lookup or save

remove words

This removes fixed words from the start and end of the title, the words are 'the, an ,a'

Takes effect with next lookup or save

capital series

Capitalises every word in the series

Takes effect with next lookup or save

ignore series text

This clears the series text when the entire text matches one of the words specified

you can define as many words as you want, separate each with a comma

Takes effect with next lookup or save

reverse Author

This changes every Author Name from 'name surname' format to 'surname, name' format and back


This action is reversible and takes effect immediately, you will see an dialog whilst updating:

remove chars

This will remove extra non alpha chars from the start and end of the main fields (includning title and series)

Takes effect with next lookup or save

apply clean text

This immediately applies all clean options to all Comics


You will be asked to confirm the action as it is not reversible


An update dialog will be shown whilst updating (may take a bit of time):

Fields

fields settings title

Opens the Advanced Fields Screen for adjusting individual fields

including adding or deleting custom fields

clean lookups

Removes all values from all looukp lists that are not currently used for any Comic

Use the Edit List Values option on the Advanced Field Settings to manage lists indivdually

field defaults title  
owned tag

Automatically set the 'Owned' Field, for new Comics

Read tag

Automatically set the 'Read' Field, for new Comics

wanted tag

Automatically set the 'Wanted' Field, for new Comics

update Read tag

Automatically update the 'Read' Field, when the tag is set and saved

default format

You can type a format than will be used to automatically set the 'Format' field for new Comics

Image Options

images settings title  
images in list

This allows images to be seen in the list, refer to the Images Page for more info

grid view size

Changes the size of the Comics in the grid view

larger images

During some lookups, a choice of image size is available, when set, lookup will use the larger choice

expand images

On the edit screen, expand the image to take up all available space, maintaining the aspect ratio

images location

Changes where images are stored, refer to the Images Page for more info

keep images

Keeps an image, even when the Comic is deleted

images in gallery

Alters if the Gallery Viewer can see images, refer to the Images Page for more info

sync with gallery

Syncs the images folder with the phones gallery
sync gallery

delete unused images

Deletes image files that do not link to a Comic





Scanning Options

scanning settings title  
barcode scanner

Allows you to select which barcode scanner is used:

select scanner dialog  
select inbuilt scanner (new)

  Always uses the built-in scanner (latest autofocus)

select inbuilt scanner (old)

  Always uses the built-in scanner (continual autofocus)

select inbuilt scanner (macro)

  Always uses the built-in scanner (macro autofocus)

select zxing scanner

  Always uses the ZXing scanner

select pic2shop scanner

  Always uses the Pic2Shop scanner (handles focus problems)

select phone dialog

  Uses the barcode scanner currently set for your phone

select scanner dialog  


Refer to the Scanning Page if you want to reset your phone's barcode scanner

existing codes

Changes how existing codes are handled when scanning in new Comics
existing codes

autofocus

Changes the autofocus interval for the built-in scanner
Change this on phones which are having trouble focusing
autofocus

accept isbn

This will only accept a valid ISBN during Scanning

If an invalid code is scanned, you will be prompted to re-scan

accept upc

This will only accept a valid UPC (not ISBN) during Scanning

If an invalid code is scanned, you will be prompted to re-scan

2 part codes

Determins how 2-part barcodes are validated/accepted during Scanning

If an invalid code is scanned, you will be prompted to re-scan

two part options

type 2nd part

Allows the 2nd part of a barcode to be typed, if the scan didint pick it up.
This is more useful for when the 2nd barcode is too small (eg 2 digits) to be detected easily (eg magazines)

leading zero

Includes the extra leading zero in the scanned code
Use this if you are regularly losing the zero from the barcodes

copy to clipboard

Copies each scanned code to the clipboard for future use





Search Options

search title  
use full search

When set all Lookups will use the Full Search option

that is, all both Main and In-Depth sources will be checked for all lookups

use title search

When set compatible Lookups will use also attempt a match by title

Note this can sometimes lead to incorrect lookups

main first

When set all Lookups will use the Main sources first (for all regions)

In-Depth sources will only be checked after ALL main sources have been checked

longer search delay

This alters the delay when typing before an automatic search is started on the Search Screen


Tick this if you find that automatic searches are being started too quickly/frequently

search order

Change the order (regions) of the sources, sources will be checked in the order specified

search order screen

Drag the regions up/down using the left hand side drag icon

You must tick a source to use it to lookup information

regions below "All" (if enabled) are disabled as "All" already includes them (in their default order)





Connectivity Options

connectivity title Change what level of data connection is needed to perform various searches/downloads
Choose WiFi only, 3G or higher, any data connection, or not to connect at all
off when roaming

Do not make any data connections of any type when roaming

single connectivity

For updates to a single Comic
(lookup info, download image, upload to db etc)
connection level

When performing a Comic search/download, if the connection level is not sufficent, you will be given the option to continue the action
confirm connection

bulk connectivity

For updates to many Comics
(lookup missing info, download missing images, find images, search by title etc)
connection level

When performing a bulk search/download, if the connection level is not sufficent, you will be given the option to continue the action
confirm connection

background connectivity

For updates that occur in the background (eg after a scan)
connection level

device connect title Options when connecting devices
longer timeout

Allow more time for the devices to respond to each other
when scanning for other devices and when transferring data during Connect Devices actions

wifi only

Only connect using Network/WiFi for Connect Devices

any shelf app

Scans for any type of shelf app during a Connect Devices scan
This only applies to network/wifi scanning and will cause the scan to take longer

discover bluetooth

Scans for new blueooth devices during a Connect Devices scan

connect devices

Starts Connect Devices, to backup, restore or sync data





App Settings

general settings title

You can enter an Advanced Key to remove adverts

The same key can be used for all shelf apps

donate

Links to here to donate to get an advanced key

check updates

Checks to see if there are any updates for the app

log file

When set, writes a log file to the sd card for help with investigating problems

This is always reset when the app is restarted





App Language

Select the current language used in the app

Connect to the central server to check for new languages or updates to language packs

Open the shelf website to help update language entries

Backup & Restore

backup title

All backups are to the /comicshelf/backups folder on the SD card
Images can already be stored on the SD card (images folder), and so are not backed up here

connect devices

Starts Connect Devices, to backup, restore or sync data

Backup both settings and data to the SD card

backup settings

Backup just settings to the SD card

backup data

Backup just data to the SD card

backup location

Change where on the SD card backups are saved/restored

The default path is the always /comicshelf/backups
The folder chosen should not be used for any other shelf app backups - use a different folder for each shelf app
You can type the path or select it with a file manager app

Perform backups automatically, at the selected interval
You will get a notification message when the backup occurs

The time of the backup may vary, to avoid unnecessary use of the battery/waking of the phone
If your automatic backups stop (force close, sd card unloaded etc), start the app and they will resume

Keep this number of historic backups
This applies to both manual and automatic backups

If a notification is to be displayed when an automatic backup happens

restore title

Restores are always done from the /comicshelf/backups folder on the SD card

The Settings Screen will always be exited after a restore to allow the system to sync the changes

fast restore

Speeds up a restore by using more memory
untick if you have any restore errors

restore all

Restores settings then data
restore all


All settings and data will be overwritten


You will be prompted to select a restore file, if you have backup history enabled

Data Reset

This can change the location of the sd card root used for images, backups, exports etc.

Enter a new location:

Confirm the change to the new location:

confirm sd card path

The new location will be tested to ensure it can be written to.

Then all the files will be moved from the current location to the new path:

move sd card files

sd card folder

This can change the folder of the sd card root used for images, backups, exports etc.

Enter a new folder:

enter sd card folder

Confirm the change to the new location:

You can move the files or just update the folder without moving anything on the sd card

confirm sd card folder

The new location will be tested to ensure it can be written to.

Then all the files will be moved from the current location to the new folder:

move sd card files

delete images

This will delete all image files from storage,

images from the web can be re-downloaded using the Download All Images menu option in the Comics Screen

images from the camera or gallery will be lost completely

clear Comics

Deletes all Comics

All settings, list values (including shelf names) and image files will be kept

reset fields

Resets all settings to their default values,

custom fields will be lost (and therefore that data is no longer accessible)

Comics, images and list values (including shelf names) will be kept

clear everything

This will delete ALL data,

all list values, including shelf names, will be lost,

settings and image files will be kept
