Import Screen Overview
This screen handles the actual Import of data in to the app.
Here you control which fields are imported, and which data fields map to which app fields:
Before you actual link the fields you need to select the source data file
Always check the entire list looking for hidden or new fields
Pressing the 'Import' button starts the import, you will see a dialog whilst this is running
Pressing the 'Cancel' button exits without importing any data
The Back button takes you back to the Previous Screen
The import will read the entire file in chunks,
if you get out of memory errors you may need to use smaller files
email me if you need help
Select Import Source
At the start of the import you need to select the source data file.
Select the type of the source
Imports data from a file, you will be prompted to find a file;
either from a list of files in the '/gameshelf/exports' folder on the SD card or from a file explorer of your phone:
If you have a file explorer installed that isn't being detected,
enable 'Use any File Manager App' in the Settings Screen
Import one of the files previously saved in the exports/imports folders
Type in the full path to the file
Only available if there is data on the clipboard
It is required to be in the same format as data saved to the clipboard
Accessed by pressing the menu button.
Specify the location of the source images
You need to check the box to import images
Press the button, or the text to select the location of the source images,
(currently you will need a file explorer installed to select a different folder)
note you actually select one on of the image files in the folder with the images to import.
Images will be copied from the selected folder to the main images folder
for this reason it is best not to use the main images folder as the source location (even though the export will handle it)
The export needs to contain an column named "_id_" to link the data to an image file
all text based shelf exports from version 2.4 upwards have this column, xml exports have always had this column
Duplicate entries are detected on the barcode,
they are then not imported.
Ticking this option will allow duplicate barcodes to imported
Each field in the source data needs mapping to the app fields.
The name of each field from the file is displayed as a section heading
Decide if the field is being imported at all
You can select which app field the data will go into
The app tries to automatically match data fields with app fields, based on various similarities
(XML data will always match the in-built fields correctly)
Press the field button to select a different field:
You can choose to import to a New Field using the center button
Fields that are currently hidden are indicated as [ field ]
If you import two data fields into one app field, the second data field will overwrite the first
If you don't import a shelf field, then the current shelf will be used
You can still import data into hidden fields, indicated as [ field ]
When Importing into a new field, a new custom field will be created for you
the name and type will be defined automatically, it is usually the list type
You will usually find it better to add the custom field before importing
Choose import to start the import progress.
The import progress will be displayed
The import screen will close when sucessfully finished
If the import fails, you can try again via the import button
