scanning

I can't scan a barcode...

If the app can't scan or you're having trouble with the auto-focus on your device:

  1. Goto settings
  2. Scroll down to the scanning area
  3. Change the Barcode Scanner:
    1. Choose 'old autofocus' if you have an old device or a camera that doesn't support contineous focus
    2. Choose 'new autofocus' if you have a moden camera that supports contineous focus
    3. Choose 'ZXing' if you have a new macro camera, or if both other options don't work

Note that by choosing the ZXing app there are even more settings available whilst scanning to help control the focus

How do I transfer data to another device?

To transfer all the data to another device (via blueooth):

  1. On the other device
    1. Goto settings, ensure images are on the SD card and that bluetooth discover new devices is enabled
    2. Goto connect from the action bar / main menu
    3. Choose bluetooth
    4. Choose 'wait for a connection'
  2. On the current device
    1. Goto settings, ensure images are on the SD card and that bluetooth discover new devices is enabled
    2. Goto connect from the action bar / main menu
    3. Choose bluetooth
    4. Choose 'scan for connections'
    5. The other device should be listed, if not check bluetooth is enabled, and the other device is still 'waiting for a connection'
    6. Select the other device
    7. Select 'Transfer all data'
    8. Say yes to a new backup (unless you are sure the last backup is upto date)
    9. Say yes to images
    10. The transfer will now run
  3. If the transfer stops
    1. restart the sequence
    2. you will not need a new backup, if you progressed sucessfully past the backup stage
    3. The process will continue from where it stopped



To transfer all the data to another device (via local network):

  1. On the other device
    1. Goto settings, ensure images are on the SD card and that the device is connected to a network
    2. Goto connect from the action bar / main menu
    3. Choose Local Network
    4. Choose 'wait for a connection'
  2. On the current device
    1. Goto settings, ensure images are on the SD card and that the device is connected to the same network as the other device
      (linked to the same network connection, and the same router)
    2. Goto connect from the action bar / main menu
    3. Choose Local Network
    4. Choose 'scan for connections'
    5. The other device should be listed, if not choose 'enter other address' and type in the address as show in the other device
    6. Select the other device, if it doesn't connect check both devices are on the same network
    7. Select 'Transfer all data'
    8. Say yes to a new backup (unless you are sure the last backup is upto date)
    9. Say yes to images
    10. The transfer will now run
  3. If the transfer stops
    1. restart the sequence
    2. you will not need a new backup, if you progressed sucessfully past the backup stage
    3. The process will continue from where it stopped



To sync two devices:

  1. Follow the steps above for either bluetooth or network
  2. At step 2.7, choose 'Sync Devices' - you won't need a backup
  3. Choose how you want the data to be sync'ed

To transfer all the data to another device (manual method):

  1. On the current device
    1. Goto settings, ensure images are on the SD card and that bluetooth discover new devices is enabled
    2. Goto settings, down to backup/restore
    3. Choose Backup To SD Card
    4. Using a file manager or accessing the sd card from the pc:
      1. Locate the gameshelf folder
      2. copy the images and the backups folder to the pc or to online storage (eg dropbox)
  2. On the other device
    1. Using a file manager or accessing the sd card from the pc:
      1. Locate the gameshelf folder (create it if it doesn't exist)
      2. copy the images and the backups folder from the pc or from the online storage to this folder
    2. Goto settings, ensure images are on the SD card
    3. Goto settings, down to backup/restore
    4. Choose Restore All
  3. The data should now be fully restored

export import

How do I export / import lists?

To import a tab seperated or comma seperated (or exported xml) file:

  1. From the action bar or the menus (main or shelf context), choose export/import
  2. Choose Import Shelf
  3. Select where the file currently is located:
    1. Any file on the sd card (needs a file explorer installed)
      (Save an excel file as tab seperated text for the easiest import)
    2. Previously exported files
    3. Any file (typed path)
    4. from the clipboard
  4. You will be shown the Import Screen:
    1. You can change the file source if required at the top
    2. Choose if you want to import images from a folder (filenames must match the Game id)
  5. Press Get Fields, you will see a list of fields found in the file:
    1. Tick which fields you want to import
    2. Change which data field the import field is mapped to
  6. Press Import File, the file will be imported

To export Games:

  1. From the action bar or the menus (main or shelf context), choose export/import
  2. Choose Export Shelf
  3. Choose which fields to export (note you can select any combination in the custom field choice)
  4. Choose where the file is going to (SD card or Email)
  5. Choose the format of the file (csv or tab seperated, either are fine for excel)
  6. Select shelves to export (you will not get this choice if you've already selected a shelf, or if you're in multi-mode of a shelf)
  7. Enter the filename (you will not get this choice for Email)
    If you've selected multiple shelves and leave the '*' in the name, you will get one file per shelf)
  8. Your data will be saved, files Goto the exports folder under the gameshelf folder on the sd card

What permissions does the app need?

These permission's are the one's that need user confirmation:

Full Internet

Used for the information lookup, image downloads (and ads)

External Storage

For backup and restore, exporting and importing files and to store images on the SD card

Bluetooth (Full)
To connect devices to share data

These permission's are also used:

Camera
Used for scanning
Network (or Phone) State
Used to detect an internet connection
Start At Boot
Used to intialise auto backup

failed lookup

The app didn't find any info for a barcode...

Ensure you have a good internet connection

You can also try lookup by name or try the Find and Add function (from the add menu)

If the Game is new, it might not be in our sources yet
