Custom Fields

Using the Advanced Field Screen you can add custom fields to the Book details.


Field Actions and Custom Fields

Each field has a set of actions which can be adjusted to change how the field is displayed and used.


Not all inbuilt fields have all actions, custom fields have all (applicable) actions:


Displayed underneath the name of the field, will be the type of the field






Adding a Custom Field

Accessed from

Once a field is added, it will appear at the bottom of the Edit Details Screen

and at the bottom of the Advanced Fields Screen

Each custom field requires a name, this can be changed later

Select the type of the field, once chosen, this cannot be changed






Deleting a Custom Field

Accessed from

delete field

Once a field is deleted, it will be removed from the Edit Details Screen

and from the Advanced Fields Screen


All data entered for the field will be no longer be accessible (unless the field is recovered - see below)

Recover a Lost Custom Field

If you seem to have lost a custom field, you can use this option to recover it

Any data previously entered for the field will be recovered

Field Actions

edit name

This allows you to change the name of the field in the Edit Details Screen and Exports and Imports

It is vital for Export and Import that all field names are different

display field

When unticked, this hides the field from all screens and will not export it

You can still see it during an import indicated as [ field ]

Data is kept for hidden fields, but will not be filled during a Lookup

can search

Controls if this field is searched, during any of the search options

edit list values

For List based fields, this opens the List Values Screen so you can edit the values

edit repeat count

Controls how may repetitions of the field are available in the Edit Details Screen and Exports and Imports

set tag icon

Choose which icons, if any, are to be used for the yes/no states of a tag field

clear data

This removes all data stored in this field, the data is lost permanently,

Useful if an inbuilt field has been filled and you no longer want the information

Types of Fields

The type of the field determines how the data is stored, displayed and edited.

small text

Small Text

A piece of small text, usually used for titles etc

list

Option (list)

The most common field type, a field for which you can select the text from a list of values

As you scroll down the larger lists you will be given an alphabetical index to help you navigate


The list values can be edited on the List Values Screen

Any new text saved is automatically added to the list

list and number

Option (list) and Number

Combines an option (list) input together with a numeric input (this is used for the series field)

For export and import the number is considered a seperate item, but linked via the field name

tags

Tag (yes/no)

Used to indicated a yes/no decision, used for the Wanted, Owned and Read fields

All Tag fields are displayed together on the Edit Details Screen

For export and import this is a 1 (yes) and 0 (no) number

date

Date

Allows input of a date (year, month and day)

For export and import this is text in the (sortable) format YYYY-MM-DD

rating

Rating

Allows selecting between 0 and 5 stars

For export and import this is a number from 0 to 5

large text

Large Text

This provides a larger text area than the small text field

There may be more text than is currently visible in the box; use the keyboard arrows to move around the text

Small Text and Number

Combines an small text input together with a numeric input

For export and import the number is considered a seperate item, but linked via the field name

image

Image

Displays the cover image of the Book, this is only available as the built-in Image field

Number

A numeric input

tracks

Track Listing

A combination of a disc/track number, a description and a duration
